Common inquiries about our programme and services
Who can participate in your educational programme?
Our programme is designed specifically for independent bookshop owners, managers, and staff, as well as curators and operators of cultural spaces with literary components. We welcome participants at all stages—from those planning to open a new space to established bookshops looking to evolve their operations and programming.
What is the time commitment for participating in the programme?
Our core programme consists of four modules delivered over a 6-month period. Each module includes approximately 15-20 hours of engagement through a combination of online sessions, in-person workshops, and self-paced activities. We design the schedule with working bookshop owners in mind, with most online sessions taking place outside of standard retail hours.
Do you offer financial assistance or scholarships?
Yes, we have a limited number of partial scholarships available for each cohort, prioritizing independent spaces from underserved communities and areas with limited access to professional development resources. We also offer flexible payment plans for all participants. Please indicate your interest in financial assistance when applying to the programme.
I'm planning to open a bookshop but haven't started yet. Is this programme suitable for me?
Yes, our programme includes specific components for those in the planning stages. We recommend that you have a business plan in development when you join, as this will allow you to apply the concepts more effectively. Approximately 20% of our participants are in the pre-launch phase, and they benefit greatly from connecting with experienced bookshop owners in the programme.
Do you offer one-on-one consulting outside of the programme?
Yes, we provide limited consulting services for specific projects and challenges. Current and past programme participants receive priority for consulting slots. Please contact us directly with your specific needs, and we'll let you know our availability and approach for your situation.
How are your programmes delivered?
We use a hybrid approach combining:
- Live online sessions for core content (recorded for participants who cannot attend synchronously)
- In-person workshops in Limerick and occasionally other locations
- Self-paced materials and activities
- One-on-one mentoring sessions at key points in the programme
- Peer learning groups for ongoing support
This flexible structure allows participation regardless of geographic location while providing the benefits of in-person connection when possible.
